Functional Movement Screen

Functional Movement Screening FMS

Finding and Fixing your Weakest Link

The Functional Movement Screening is an innovative system used to evaluate the quality of movement patterns. It demonstrates limitations and asymmetries in healthy individuals with respect to basic movement patterns.

This service includes the screening and the corrective exercises to help you achieve symmetric movement patterns. To learn more visit the Functional Movement Screening website.

Why do you need Functional Movement Screening?

1. Improve performance
2. Improve efficiency of movement
3. Improve movement symmetry
4. Improve your balance, stability and mobility
5. Decrease probability of injuries

Clinical Implications of FMS

  • DEEP SQUAT: reveals torso, glenohumeral joint, thoracic spine, ankle, hip and knee mobility.
  • HURDLE STEP: stance leg stability and mobility of step leg, hip flexion and extension.
  • IN-LINE LUNGE: torso and extremities to resist rotation and maintain proper alignment, access hip, ankle mobility/stability and flexibility of quad.
  • SHOULDER MOBILITY: access scapular mobility and thoracic spine extension and shoulder motion.
  • ACTIVE STRAIGHT LEG RAISE: disassociate lower extremity while maintaining stability in torso.
  • TRUNK PUSH-UP: requires stable spine during a upper body symmetrical movement.
  • ROTARY STABILITY: requires asymmetrical trunk stability during assymetrical upper/lower extremity movement.

Testimonial

"We now use this program with every player as a pretest and evaluation tool before we even begin to train them. This individualizes our training as we can now focus on improving weaknesses, imbalances and asymmetries in an effort to improve functional movement patterns. It's the foundation of our program. Everything we do builds off of it. We wouldn't think of not using this program"
